Health

Human health concerns associated with the Richmond Landfill:
- No health study has been done to evaluate the human health impacts of this landfill site.
- Studies suggest that adverse outcomes may accrue as a result of living near landfill sites in general. Concerns include a higher risk of certain cancers and birth defects. Such studies and their health implications were not considered or discussed in the human health component of the Environmental Assessment.
- Toxicologist Dr. Forkert has cited concerns about the "high" incidence of cancer in the community. No health surveys have been carried out to address this.
- At times landfill odours and gas have been reported to be so extensive that vomiting is induced in children waiting for the school bus (Callaghan Road).
