May 3 | Posted by Jeff | The Leaky Land BlogPoh-Gek has written an article for the Centre for Policy Alternatives which describes the challenges communities face when mounting opposition to projects proposed by wealthy and politically savvy proponents and recommends a solution. The resources available to community groups are constrained by their lack of finances. Proponents enter the fray with huge potential for financial gain and deep pockets while community groups must organize fund raisers to pay for badly needed technical and legal help in preparing their case. In order to level the playing field, Dr. Forkert recommends the reestablishment of mandatory intervenor funding that Ontario had before it was eliminated by the Mike Harris government.
